Diocesan Customary
The Diocesan Customary establishes consistent practices for the worship and common life of the Diocese, as derived from the Bishop’s liturgical and spiritual leadership. The customary basically says, “how the Diocese does things”. The current customary available is from 2022 and is currently undergoing revisions to reflect our new Ordinary, and to better communicate and provide resources differently on the website. Until completed, most of the Diocesan applications, policies, and resources are included within the Customary.
Clergy Pension Enrollment & Information
The Reformed Episcopal Church offers a pension plan for our clergyman and church employees. A mandatory 12% contribution or $500 (whichever is greater) is required for every Presbyter serving a parish. This is a contribution from the parish budget and not a reduction of salary. Every newly ordained minister is to enroll in the pension plan regardless of whether a contribution is being added or not. The plan summary and enrollment kit are available on the National Website.
Clergy Financial Assistance Grants
The Diocese has a designated fund for the purpose of helping Diocesan clergy that are facing unforeseen financial hardships. An application and any necessary supporting documentation should be submitted to the Treasurer of the Diocese as shown in the application for consideration by the Committee.
DCS Seminary Scholarship Fund
The Holy Nativity Scholarship fund is designated for the purpose of supporting men whom God has called to pastoral ministry in the Reformed Episcopal Church. The scholarship may cover up to $5,000 of seminary tuition for men seeking ordination within the Diocese. There are certain eligibility requirements and an application is necessary to be considered.
Episcopal Visit Resources
The Bishop will visit every parish during the course of a calendar year unless circumstances prevent otherwise. In preparation of the Episcopal Visit, the parish leadership (Rector & Vestry members) should complete and submit their personal evaluations and other necessary documents to the Bishop. These should be submitted to the Bishop in advance of his visit so he has time to review them.
Additionally, the rector should submit the names of any confirmands and/or receptions to the Bishop and his administrative assistant at least 2 weeks prior to the Episcopal Visit. This will allow adequate time for certificates to be produced before travel. Email to submit names for Confirmation / Reception names.
Diocesan Financial Manual
The Diocesan Financial Manual provides best practices and important financial legal matters for parishes and clergy to consider. This manual should be provided to every parish treasurer and vestry member.
Diocesan Vestry Manual
The Diocesan Vestry Manual explains the roles and responsibilities of the Vestry and it’s members as it relates to the operation and ministry of the parish. This manual should be used to train new vestry members and to teach the parish how the Vestry functions.
Diocesan Policy on Safeguarding
Safeguarding of all individuals within the Diocese is the responsibility of every parish, clergyman, and member of our church. Every parish is to adopt a safeguarding policy regarding children and vulnerable adults. This policy must include background checks, proper training, protection procedures, and reporting procedures. The Diocese has adopted a policy which can be used for your local parish, or you may modify to your own context. If a modification is made, it must be submitted to our Chancellor to ensure that it complies with our requirements. Visit our Safeguarding page for more information and policies.
